A number of meat safety systems are implemented while livestock are still either on-farm, in a feedlot or at a saleyard.

Livestock Production Assurance

LPA is a voluntary on-farm food safety and quality assurance certification program designed to help the red meat industry strengthen systems currently in place. LPA provides a set of guidelines and a National Vendor Declaration (NVD) to help producers state the food safety status of their livestock. The CATTLECARE and Flockcare quality assurance schemes are also covered under LPA (level 2). more

National Saleyards Quality Assurance Program

The National Saleyard Quality Assurance (NSQA) program, as its name suggests, is a quality assurance program for Australian livestock saleyards. more

AUSVETPLAN

Effective responses to emergency disease outbreaks require emergency disease planning at national, state/territory and district level and the involvement of both animal health authorities and emergency management organisations. Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority

The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority  (APVMA) is an Australian government authority responsible for the assessment and registration of pesticides and veterinary medicines and for their regulation up to and including the point of retail sale. more

While Australia’s animal health systems are often coordinated at the national level, it is the states and territories that often regulate these systems. more

National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme

A quality assurance program exists for Australian feedlots called the National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme (NFAS).  As stipulated in the Export Meat Orders, this program is mandatory for feedlots producing grainfed beef for export markets. The objective of the NFAS is to develop a quality system for beef feedlots that impacts positively on product quality and acceptability and for which the lot feeders maintain responsibility. more
