Approved Quality Assurance Arrangements

AQIS requires that all export meat establishments develop and implement a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)-based AQIS approved arrangement that is at least equivalent to the Meat Safety Quality Assurance (MSQA) system outlined below. Furthermore, the standard requires that all meat processing establishments develop and implement approved arrangements to underpin good management and production practices and the implementation of HACCP to ensure the production of wholesome meat and meat products.

Meat Safety Quality Assurance

To maintain and enhance Australia’s very effective food inspection system, continuous improvement is required. A flexible regulatory environment is needed to foster the incorporation of new techniques and methods into food production and inspection to improve food safety. more

Hazard Analysis at Critical Control Points Systems

Australia’s HACCP programs are based upon criteria established by the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the international food standard setting body established jointly by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). more

Meat Hygiene Assessment

The AQIS-developed Meat Hygiene Assessment (MHA) system is mandatory for federally inspected establishments and comprises two parts: one system for process monitoring and the other for product monitoring. more
