National Vendor Declaration

The Property Identification Code on the National Vendor Declaration form is used to link the livestock being transported to the last property of origin. The NVD informs the transporter and the receiver of the livestock on the history of the animals.

The National Vendor Declaration also incorporates the livestock waybill. The waybill component of the NVD is filled out by the owner before stock are moved. It accompanies stock while they are being transported and is handed to the receiver of the stock. This is one piece of evidence that stock are being moved with the owner’s consent. They are also extremely useful documents to aid tracing for disease and residue problems. Processors are encouraging all owners to complete all sections of the NVD as a means to enhance food safety.
